People are becoming increasingly aware of the existence of Reiki - a ‘healing’ therapy that helps people, children, animals, plants – on all levels working through the soul / spiritual / emotional / physical elements of our beings.
The Japanese word Reiki means ‘Universal Energy’ and the belief principle of how it works is that the Reiki practitioner acts as a channel for loving healing energy to be passed through them to boost the healing system of the person. The idea that we can ‘heal’ with our hands or thoughts is certainly not a new one, and whether someone is a natural born healer; or has been attuned to Reiki; or has training as a spiritual healer – we have the same aim of boosting your healing system in body & soul.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a natural healing energy activated by a person’s intention that the energy is directed to wherever it’s needed. The best thing we, as practitioners, can do is to mentally stand back and allow ourselves to be the conduit for the energy to pass to you, no matter what you or we think needs fixing- because the energy is more intelligent and knows where the cause of the problem lies.
Healing is not the same as curing. Healing is about helping the person in their journey – through emotional and physical health or to making the transition from this ‘physical’ plane to the next with a sense of peace & a beneficial change to their attitude to life.
Reiki is not a religion so you don’t have to have faith for it to work, although an open mind helps the energy to flow more freely. It is a gentle yet powerful therapy that works very well as a compliment to orthodox; complimentary and alternative healthcare; and sometimes where traditional medicine is not meeting your needs. It boosts the healing power of all these.
It is now widely used in private practice; GP Surgeries; hospitals, hospices, cancer care (there is good research evidence that it helps with the side effects of chemotherapy & radiation therapy); faster post-operative recovery from major surgery; drug rehabilitation; pain relief - the list goes on. Many Reiki practitioners are nurses and vet nurses.
A single session may make a difference, and a course of treatments over time, weekly, fortnightly, monthly etc. depending on the severity or longevity of the problem - is likely to be more effective.
So what happens in a session?
You can either lie down or sit, and the Reiki practitioner places their hands on or over areas of your body. They may use a
sequence of hand positions or follow their instinct as to where they feel their hands are drawn to.
You draw in as much energy as your own healing system needs. You might feel warmth, tingling, coolness or nothing at all, but it is deeply relaxing and calming to the mind.
Absent or Distant Healing
Reiki can be sent for absent / distant healing and this can go anywhere and at any pre-set time.
When channelling Reiki, no two people are ever the same, everyone has a different experience of receiving it. The aim being that the recipient leaves with a sense of peace.
We’re all happy to chat with you if you are curious to know more (or for a distance healing request).
