Shiatsu at the Chiron Centre, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a form of healing bodywork that connects deep into the muscles, joints and underlying energy of the body. It is based on the same meridian and point system as acupuncture but, instead of needles, practitioners use intuitive, compassionate touch to connect with the recipient on a deep level. Everything that makes us who we are is held in our bodies. When you receive shiatsu all of you is welcomed and held; your history and hopes, your woundedness and perfection.
Physical illness, tension, painful emotions, traumatic memories and difficult events can all be opportunities for deep healing and transformation. When we experience feelings or sensations that we judge to be undesirable we tend to 'close down' around them. In doing so, however, something is lost and we become cut off from our full aliveness and vitality. Through shiatsu it is my aim to help you, safely and at your own pace, reconnect with what has been lost. These resources can give you the power to heal yourself and your life.
Although clients often come with physical ailments, shiatsu works with the whole being rather than just the symptom. I believe that each person has a place of perfect wisdom within themselves, and holds all the tools they need for their healing. I offer a safe, confidential and supportive space where you can bring whatever you want to bring and be with whatever you need to be with, in order to find the acceptance and peace that resides within you, and the permission to truly be your unique and beautiful self.
What happens in a Shiatsu session?
A Shiatsu begins with time for you to fully arrive and, with guidance, explore what it is you want and need from the session. The bodywork takes place on a futon mat on the floor, through clothing. (Please wear loose, warm, comfortable clothes.) A range of techniques may be used depending on what is most appropriate, from gentle holding to deeply releasing stretches and pressure. A standard 1 hr session allows around 15 minutes to explore what you want and need from the session and around 40 minutes for the bodywork, allowing some time to 'anchor things in' at the end of the session. An extended 2 hr session allows you time to explore issues in more depth and more time to ‘anchor things in’ at the end, and can be a powerful way of working.
How many sessions should I have?
This is up to you and may vary depending on why you have come for shiatsu and how far you want to take your healing. People with a specific issue often choose to have a course of shiatsu, for example one session every 2 or 3 weeks for 6 sessions or more, and many people continue to have regular shiatsu on an ongoing basis. However it is absolutely fine to have a one-off session! Some people swear by a monthly shiatsu; others choose to have a shiatsu every now and then when they feel they most need it. I am happy to help you work out what is right for you and you will never be pressurised into making an appointment.
